Something to think about for next season's playoffs

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

Nah, leave the cash as is.

I like the first and last week double cash

We could also do last 2 weeks of regular season double cash. Can't do double cash during playoffs because Yahoo makes some teams have bye weeks.

Maybe we first vote on whether to have playoffs earlier and if it passes, a separate vote on whether we do 2 weeks of double cash to make up for having less weeks in our season.

Also in favour of ending early

i know I'm sure to be in the minority on this but i will vote to leave it as is. I like having a week that is usually extra long and i think the decisions that need to be made make it fun/challenging and the need to display managerial skills. Also the NHL has a severely imbalanced schedule. Someone will surely get burned in that week when they have alot of guys on teams with multiple games the last week and fewer on the 2nd to last week.

That is a very good point. Some nhl weeks can be imbalanced. And sometimes there's nhl teams that only play once or twice a week. So there is potential for one of our league teams to have an advantage if our final is just 7 days. But im going to vote to end the season earlier because I think there's even more of an imbalance when you have a good chunk of your players with DTD status because they're getting benched to rest. I think some teams at end of last season had up to a third of their players not playing for this reason. So I think it's unrealistic to expect teams to sign players in FA to offset this. Plus we'd probably have to expand the amount of IR spots because 10 might not be enough. So ending the season earlier might not be perfect, but I think it's the better option.

I think we should put this up for a vote. And if it passes, then vote on whether or not we have the last week of our leagues regular season be worth double the cash. Because if we end season on Sun Apr 5, we'd only be missing 1 weeks worth of match ups, not 2.

Anybody have an issue with this? If no one speaks up, we'll start voting on this tomorrow.

Good points Ted

It's not so much having to sign FAs but have a roster balance among teams. But understand why people might want to change that. Is there a week to make the final two weeks or no?

For the cash, I am opposed to just making the last week count double. Why should that week be the special week especially if it could be imbalanced? Maybe it would be better to increase end of season money slightly to offset it

Unfortunately Yahoo doesn't give the option for making any particular match up 2 weeks. The only reason the last matchup is 2 weeks is because the last week, the NHL regular season ends on a Thursday.

And assuming the ending the season earlier vote passes, I'm open to adding to end of season cash. Maybe every team gets an additional $3 with their end of season cash? It's not that the last week of regular season would be special, it's just to compensate for there being 1 less week to win cash. I'm probably fine with either way.

Anybody else have an opinion on what we do on the cash side?

This maybe a selfish post;

I'm an advocate for no additional cash. Since being in the basement each season since the expansion draft, I find the roster concentration near the top of the league very heavy with top end talent. The FA draft (including baseball), is great, however no real chance with the top picks of meaningfully improving a team to make the next step.

Further, as Steve pointed out in baseball, all teams have their eyes on resigns each year as is. In each league, we don't see any big meaningful FA adds each season ($4+), outside of one or two.

I believe forgoing the additional $10 cash (up for grabs), could be a step in the right direction of having a harder look at resigns at the end of the year, increasing talent in the FA pool.

In short, if we are shortening the season, I am fine with not adding any additional cash to other weeks.
