Rule Change Proposal Discussion - Lottery Draft (Prospect)
I'm probably going to vote against installing a draft lottery.
Main reason is I like giving the worst teams in the league the best chance to get better and when the worst teams aren't getting the top couple picks, it makes climbing out of the cellar a lot harder. The top couple picks have so much value and it's like if the worst teams aren't getting them, it can really set them back.
The NHL has a draft lottery to deter teams from tanking.
I don't think we need a deterrent in our league because when you decide to tank, the trade off is that you're not winning cash and that can be very harmful.
Also, the assumption would probably be that I operate the draft lottery and some years there could be conflict of interest, like this season for example, I have Flames 1st round prospect pick. So then it creates questions of whether guys would be ok with me still running it or if someone else needs to and if most trust this person to do it. And possible we might need different guys running this every season depending on who has the top pick.
Then there's also the issue of agreeing on the odds and the numbers and figuring out what's fair and what's not.
But it seems like this idea has enough support to put it up for a vote.
But before we vote, let's try to get a consensus on what the odds and numbers would be, who would be running the lottery, how many lottery teams there would be, etc.
And one more thing, we're not able to open trades and resigns until we wrap up all voting. So for those who want to open trades, we need to figure these details out first and vote before we can do that
I think we should leave this, although I like the idea. Maybe bring it up in the future with concrete rules

Alex made a proposal in terms of how we could do a draft lottery. Does anyone want to support his plan and put it up for a vote?
Or does anyone support the idea of a draft lottery and want to propose different numbers or changes to his plan?
I'd like to see at least 2 other teams jump in and say they want to vote on this before we put it up for a vote.

Is there anyone else that would vote yes for the draft lottery? So far, it seems like it might be only Alex voting to pass it. We won't put it up for a vote unless a couple teams post here that they want to support it and would probably vote yes for it.
Against it for now, but would be willing to consider for next year or later
Counting Flames, Oilers, myself, and other teams that texted me, we're now at 7 teams that would be against this passing, at least for this season.
