- I go to almost every Capitals game (my friend has season tickets) and keep up a bit with the team. Pierre Luc-Dubois was NEVER out for the season. I even spoke with him in December at the Meet the Team event, he was very nice, and he hoped to return soon this season.
- The rule is not "somewhat" of a chance. It's "he's out for the season."
- If you put someone on Season-Ending IR, he is stuck there. That has happened to a team or two in baseball when a player come back for like last two week of the season unexpectedly.
- He shouldn't have even been on Season-Ending IR in the first place, but you are stuck with him there.
Final: Pierre Luc-Dubois should not be on your roster Chris and never should have been on season-ending IR, but since you did it already, he should not be on your roster for the rest of the season.

Quote from Steve on February 8, 2026, 6:38 pmI can concur with Jason on all of this.
And in regards to the rules I am kind of shocked. I assumed part of commissioners role when new rules get passed was to update them. The only published version we have is 12 years old?
This leaves us in vague situations like this where rules are essentially based on commissioners or league members memory? What happens if Commissioner leaves or worse?
Why wouldn't we just have a second tab in the Google Spreadsheet with all the published rules?

Quote from Chris on February 8, 2026, 6:49 pmIf any of you guys care, Im trying to get over the flu. I'm starting to feel better but it's the sickest Ive been in years. It's been bad. I even missed taking my daughter Avery to Disneyland on her 5th birthday. Gina went without me. It's been a crappy weekend. So Im fine with whatever you guys want to do on Dubois. I don't care. And for anyone thinking I was trying to go around the rules, Ive been doing this commish thing now for how many years? Has there ever been a problem with me trying to cheat or take some advantage?
As far as having updated rules being published, if anyone wants to do it, go for it

Quote from Alex on February 8, 2026, 6:59 pmI have no quarrel with you, Chris. You’ve done a great job and are excellent in keeping up with all in both hockey and baseball. League is great to partake in and fun.
On the season ending rule, I’ve always taken it as if player is placed on it (from media speculation), player cannot return the same season.
In the grand scheme of things, maybe best to put this single case to a vote and revise rules for better language next season?

Quote from Steve on February 8, 2026, 7:00 pmChris, No one it attacking you personally. We asked for the rules because clearly taking the guy off Season Ending IL did not seem possible to both Ted and I. You then told us that the rules haven't been updated in years. That is a problem. Not because the assumption is your cheating, but because this is a silly non-cash fantasy league with no real stakes at play and none us can remember litanies of rule changes over a decade. It is not a problem that needs to be solved today but needs to be resolved none the less.
It does seem like we have 3 long time members of the league have a different understanding of the Season Ending IR and how it works.
The good news is there are no NHL games for over two weeks. Get well. This can be resolved well before games resume.

Quote from Ted on February 8, 2026, 7:39 pmthe flu is brutal this year. Rest up and get better. Kimberly was in the hospital for 4 days with the flu in January. It's a bugger.
Yes, not attacking you about it, just the rule has been he's done when on season-ending IR. I have no info as to what his status was prior to the season but i am sure you placed him there with whatever info you had at hand.

Quote from Chris on February 8, 2026, 8:24 pmI appreciate you guys saying all this.
Come August, I'll propose teams having the ability to activate players off season ending IR if they end up healthy. I don't see anything wrong with it.
As for now, I know for sure that teams have the ability to cut or trade players that are on season ending IR. And I think I would be within the rules to trade Dubois to someone and then get him back. Similar to how teams get paid a premium for facilitating protecting a prospect for someone. Or a premium that teams get paid for doing a sign and trade, etc. But if I'm wrong, let me know. I don't think the season ending rule means that Dubois is banned from my active roster this season.

Quote from Matt on February 8, 2026, 9:52 pmFlu sucks and I’ve been getting over it for like 2 weeks to this day = no fun at all. Feel better Chris!
I also interpreted the rule as people on season ending were done for the year as I’ve regretted putting barkov there instead of Romanov, cause now it looks like barkov is wolverine and may make a crazy comeback before the season ends haha.
also interesting that the rules used to be a snake draft that has order reversed each round! I’m assuming this was changed since then haha

Quote from Ted on February 8, 2026, 10:58 pmyou can trade him but i think he has to and should remain on season-ending IR. The point of season-ending IR is not to give people extra roster spaces to stash guys who might play. It is to allow teams to put someone away for next year who won't play this year and still field a full roster with a complement of regular IR spaces. This way the guy out for the year doesn't hurt you. It was especially important in both leagues for situations late in the season when teams do not place guys on the actual IR/IL.

Quote from Chris on February 9, 2026, 6:01 amYeah like I was telling Jason, NHL teams are so secretive about injury info it makes it hard for anyone to figure out how long a player is out for.
I'll just keep Dubois frozen in my season ending IR and drop him from my Yahoo roster. And then maybe we can take a look at this again in August during preseason
And again, sorry for the outburst guys
