Adding positions to players
Does anybody else care about this one way or the other?
So am I basically stuck here with guys with the wrong eligibility for the remainder of the season?
My position has not changed, however a couple of things the league could consider next offseason;
1) Change to Fantrax - been very vocal over last few years as the interface with minors is significantly easier to manage. From a brief look, it appears position management from the site is much more active than Yahoo.
2) If we continue with Yahoo, and are in agreement with the laziness they are exhibiting, I would be open to dropping 1 each of C/LW/RW and creating 3 additional UTIL spots if this is a major issue.
Things to consider next offseason.
I think I'm alright with it, but I think it would probably only be fair if it was done for every team, which is a very large undertaking. I've always been in support of a move to Fantrax but that would also be a large undertaking and I understand the hesitance from others. Very curious to hear some more opinions from other teams.
I’m not a fan of rule changes mid season but I do like Alex’s idea of taking one each of C/Rw/Lw and changing it to Util next season. I have a few leagues that changed to Fantrax and they all have their own problems as it is, so that isn’t a saving grace solution either.
A lot to think about in the off season. The question is do we want to do any thing for this season. It sounds like most want to wait to make any changes.
I want to restate the simplicity of what we are discussing.
Go back 1 Year - If a player played “x” amount of games Yahoo would give them that position as eligible. It’s something that’s always been done. It was simple - Player played that position consistently they got eligibility.
Fast Forward to Today - Yahoo is on vacation. Not doing it. But created a tool for the Commissioner to do it. So all that we are trying to rectify 14-15 games into the year for many teams is to update the position eligibility like has always been done without us thinking about it.
Honestly it so simple I did not think it required a discussion. I thought it was very logical to right and wrong using the tool Yahoo provided us that Chris could just do it. The direction this convo has gone is way off course and the discussion seems to be “it sounds hard”. Chris presented a system and I volunteered to audit for the entire league. I’m not understanding the hesitancy.
Based on the lack of support for getting something done right now for adding positions to players, let's table this until August for next season. And I'm sure this issue will also be discussed in our sister baseball league in February, but I think this will be easier to deal with in baseball because Baseball Reference keeps track of how many games a played plays at each position. So it's very clear cut. For whatever reason, hockey doesn't have any resources, at least that we know of, that keep track of that.
